Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is pursued by a multitude of reasons, typically to ease symptoms caused by disproportionately large breasts. Reduction surgery can help ease back pain, improve ability to exercise, reduce bra strap pain, and improve confidence and self-expression. Most patients experience significant quality of life improvements after undergoing reduction surgery.

I perform the operation with a vertical cut, which minimizes size of the scar, and generally helps achieve a more aesthetic result. As a general principle, as many milk ducts will be retained, to maximize the possibility to retain ability to breastfeed.

  • Some health insurances partially cover the cost of a privately performed breast reduction surgery.
  • Preliminary screening is possible via video call
  • Patients over 40 need to have a mammography taken within 12 months before operation.
  • Operation performed under general anesthesia
  • Duration about 2 hours
  • Typically patients ready to leave the hospital after 4-5 hours of post-op surveillance
  • Usually no intensive post-op pain, return to work and normal exercise routine possible after 1 month
  • Cost estimates start at 6000 € (in Estonia)

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift surgery can be appropriate when breasts are of a preferred size, but their shape has changed over time, causing a loss of youthful firmness. Breast shape changes can be caused by pregnancy, weight changes or aging. In the operation, the nipple is lifted, and the mammary gland is reshaped higher compared to the nipple. An implant is not necessary unless size enhancement is desired. The in-section scar will be below the nipple and down. Most patients undergoing breast lift surgery experience a revitalizing aesthetic impact on their figure.

  • Preliminary screening is possible via video call
  • Operation performed under anesthesia
  • Duration about 2 hours
  • Typically patients ready to leave the hospital after 4-5 hours of post-op surveillance
  • Usually no intensive post-op pain, return to work and normal exercise routine possible after 1 month
  • Cost estimates start at 5 000 € (in Estonia)

Breast Augmentation

Implants are the most common type of breast augmentation surgery. In the operation an implant is placed in a pocket created between the mammary glands and pectoral muscle or under pectoral muscle. When considering breast augmentation, it's important to pay careful attention to implant size selection. Too small of an implant can result in an unsatisfactory change. Too large size can be uncomfortable during exercise, or create an unnatural aesthetic result.

My recommendation is for patients to try prosthetics placed under the bra, in their day-to-day lives, to get a feel for different sized implants. Sometimes a breast lift is also recommended in addition to augmentation, to achieve a desired result.

  • Preliminary screening is possible via video call
  • Operation performed under anaesthesia
  • Duration about 2 hours
  • Patients ready to leave the hospital after a few hours
  • Recovery typically fast, high intensity exercise to be avoided for a month
  • Cost estimates start at 5 000 € (in Estonia)

Breast Augmentation with Fat Grafting

Breast Augmentation can be done via fat transfer. In the operation, adipose tissue is suctioned out from another part of the body and injected into breasts. The operation is usually not the primary option as a direct breast augmentation technique since there is some variance in the magnitude of the results. Of the injected adipose tissue, 20 – 80 % will stick, in most cases roughly half. As a benefit however, the result will be permanent and natural. Breast augmentation via fat transfer can be recommended when liposuction is desired on its own merits, or in cases of corrective surgery for asymmetrical breasts, where the desired change in size is smaller, and a natural result is a priority.

  • Preliminary screening is possible via video call
  • Patients over 40 need to have a mammography taken within 12 months before operation.
  • Operation performed under general anaesthesia
  • Duration about 2 hours
  • Patients ready to leave the hospital after a few hours
  • Recovery typically fast, high intensity exercise to be avoided for a month. Suctioned area under compressive textile for 3 weeks
  • Cost estimates start at 5 000 € (in Estonia)

Asymmetrical or Tuberous Breast Correction

Asymmetrical breasts might cause trouble finding correct sized bra. Some patients experience discomfort with the aesthetic appearance of different sized or shaped breasts. All the general techniques for breast reduction and enhancement are available for asymmetrical breasts. For equal sized but asymmetrically shaped breasts a breast lift surgery can be sufficient for the desired result.

Tuberous breasts is a developmental anomaly during puberty. Breasts develop small, and there is tight skin at the bottom of the breast, causing protrusion of the nipple. Tuberous breasts can include asymmetry. Tuberous breasts is underdiagnosed, and can affect the psychological well-being of young women. A wide array of techniques is available, ranging from a nipple-lift performed under local anaesthesia to breast enhancement.

  • Correction surgeries can have partial or full coverage in some health insurances

Reconstructive and Corrective Breast Surgery after Breast Cancer

After breast cancer, there may be asymmetry or unwanted aesthetic changes in the patient's breasts. Generally, post cancer treatment is covered by public healthcare, but some health insurances may also cover reconstruction on the private sector. After cancer treatment, reconstruction can be pursued, once the post-op treatment is finished, and at least a year has passed from the first cancer operation. Also, an entirely amputated breast can be reconstructed, and all standard breast surgery techniques are available. Also own tissue reconstruction techniques are available.

Face

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Heavy looking and feeling eyelids are a common age-related problem. Heavy eyelids can cause headaches, difficulty to read for longer periods, and aesthetic concerns. In eyelid surgery, excess skin and fat is removed from eyelids. It's also possible to perform a brow lift in conjunction with eyelid surgery. A fat transfer to the orbital area or cheek area is possible, to rejuvenate facial features.

Eyelid surgery can improve the patient's quality of life, especially when experiencing functional problems. The operation is relatively simple, with a fast recovery.

  • Preliminary consultation possible via video call
  • Operation performed under local anaesthesia
  • Duration 1-2 hour
  • Patient ready to leave hospital in 1-2 hours
  • Full recovery of bruising in 1-2 weeks
  • Some health insurances offer partial or full coverage of blepharoplasty
  • Cost estimates start at 2 000 €. (in Finland)

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Pudginess or excess skin in the lower eyelid is a common aging-related cosmetic problem. The problem may be caused by excess fat concentration on the eyelid, stretched skin or musculature. Excess fat can be removed via the inside of the lower eyelid, causing no externally visible scars. Excess skin can be removed by a cut at the lid margin or be tightened by laser.

Correction of stretched muscle, requires a transcutaneous surgery, which requires general anaesthesia. In conjunction with lower eyelid surgery, a fat transfer to the eye or cheek area is possible, to rejuvenate facial features.

  • Operation usually performed under local anaesthesia
  • Duration from 1 hour
  • Patient ready to leave hospital in 1-2 hours
  • Full recovery of bruising in 1-2 weeks
  • Cost estimates start at 2 500 € (in Finland)

Brow or Forehead Lift

The brow or entire forehead can descend or begin to sag with aging. A brow or forehead lift can reduce horizontal wrinkles on the forehead or nose, reduce sagging of the brow and place eyelids in a youthful alert position. A smaller (max 4 mm) brow lift can be performed via an in-section in the eyelid, leaving no externally visible scar.

A more pronounced lift can be performed via a cut above the eyebrow. The scar will be visible to begin with, but usually fades completely over time. An entire forehead lift is a larger operation performed under general anaesthesia through an in-section on the hairline.

  • Brow lift under local anaesthesia, forehead general
  • Wide range in recovery prognosis depending on operation performed
  • Cost estimates start at 2 000 € (in Finland)

Injection Treatment (Fillers and Botulin)

Injection treatments can be used to rejuvenate desired facial features and reduce aging related changes.

Botulinum toxin can be used to relax muscular contraction in specific areas of the face, to reduce wrinkles. Typical areas are forehead, eye area and corners of the mouth. Botulin gradually loses its effect in 3 to 8 months. Botulinum can also be used to treat migraines and bruxism.

Hyaluronic acid injections can be used to increase volume in certain areas, and smooth wrinkles. Facial fat decrease and skin thins as we age, causing aging-related changes in facial features. Volume increases in lips or cheekbones can help rejuvenate aging facial features. Subtle treatment creates a natural result. Effect of treatment gradually fades over 3 to 8 months.

Old fillers can be removed using Hylase injections, designed to dissolve filler substances.

  • Duration 30 min-1 hour
  • Typically no recovery time needed
  • Botulinum cost about 350 € / 50 IU(1-3 areas)
  • Hyaluronic acid cost 400-500 € (1 ml)/ syringe (1-3 areas)
  • Combination treatments starting at 600 €
  • Control visit included within pricing

Facial Fat Grafting

One causes of aging-related changes in facial features is reduction of fat around the face. Typical areas for fat transfer are cheekbones, lacrimal groove, nasolabial fold, or eye and chin areas. Fat grafting can increase volume considerably more than filler materials. The results will be permanent.

  • Duration 1 -1.5 hour
  • Performed in local anesthesia in outpatient setting
  • Typically no recovery time needed, bruising can last up to two weeks
  • Cost estimates starts at 1500e (in Finland)

Body

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

After pregnancy or significant weight loss, excess skin may remain around the abdominal area, which might cause aesthetic or functional concern. A rift may have occurred between abdominal musculature (rectus diastasis), which may cause a bloated looking abdomen, pain, or impairment of muscle control in the core area. In an abdominoplasty, excess skin is removed, and the abdominal rift is corrected if necessary. If necessary, liposuction can be performed on the abdominal area in connection with an abdominoplasty.

Abdominoplasty can have a significant impact on quality of life, especially if excess skin has caused functional problems. It is a fairly significant operation, with some risk involved. It is imperative to consult your doctor, and to make a thorough risk assessment before surgery.

  • In person consultation necessary
  • Operation performed under anaesthesia
  • Duration about 2 hours
  • At least one overnight stay required
  • Recovery takes 3-8 weeks, and the operated area can be painful in the beginning
  • Some health insurances offer partial or full coverage of abdominoplasty
  • Cost estimates start at 8 000 € (Finland)

Male Gynecomastia

Male mammary gland growth can be related to use of certain drugs, hormonal factors, or weight gain. Gynecomastia can cause aesthetical concerns and feelings of shame. In the treatment excess mammary gland tissue is removed through liposuction, or through an in-section around the nipple.

  • Preliminary screening is possible via video call
  • Patients over 40 need to have a mammography taken within 12 months before operation.
  • Operation performed under anesthesia
  • Duration about 2 hours
  • Typically one night in hospital post-op, possibly after 4-5 hours of post-op surveillance
  • Usually no intensive post-op pain, return to work and normal exercise routine possible after 1 month
  • Cost estimates start at 4 000 €

Liposuction

Excess unwanted fat can be removed from desired areas on the body, or limbs. Fat is removed through a small in-section via a cannula. Liposuctions can be performed under local anaesthesia in day surgery. After a liposuction specialized compression garments need to be used for 3 weeks.

  • Duration 1-2 hour
  • Can be performed in local anesthesia
  • Typiocally 3 weeks recovery time
  • Compression clothing must be used 3 weeks
  • Cost estimates starting at 3 000 €

General Surgery Operations

Professional approach is necessary also in small clinical operations. Correct surgical technique creates less noticeable scarring and reduces post-operative risks. Removed tissue needs to typically be sent to a pathological examination to confirm diagnosis. In addition to skin change removals, we offer a wide range of small surgery, such as scar corrections, nail-fold excisions and gluteal fold cysts. Burn or other trauma related reconstruction according to consultation.
